Halloween in Barcelona with kids!

Halloween is typically a celebration of all things spooky. In Barcelona, Halloween is celebrated the evening of the 31st, while the actual holiday takes place on the 1st November, known as All Saint’s Day. Here in Barcelona, celebrations cover both the modern, more commercial and American version of Halloween, as well as the traditional Catalan castanyada festivities (including roast chestnuts, sweet potatoes and small marzipan cakes), making the holiday a fun autumnal celebration which the whole family can enjoy.

Here are some ways you can satisfy your children’s spooky side this autumn!

Barcelona Halloween activities

Tibidabo Amusement Park

Is there a better excuse to take your children for a day at Tibidabo Amusement Park? Let the kids dress up as their favourite scary characters and take on some hair-raising rides! Here in this beautiful setting, you will find Halloween themed rollercoasters, games and other activities. Find out more about how you can get involved on their website.

Poble Espanyol

Enjoy a full day of Halloween activities at the beautiful, enclosed and traffic free environment of Poble Espanyol! A wonderful stress-free way to provide your kids with all the fun they will need to keep them occupied.  It really is the perfect Halloween party for families with kids. Taking place just before Halloween, on Saturday 27th October, Poble Espanyol transforms itself into the perfect place to celebrate Halloween. The Poble becomes filled with scary decorations and characters to create a spooky atmosphere.  During the day, you can expect to take part in some of the many activities and workshops for children: a drawing corner, an obstacle course, haunted tunnels, storytellers, movies and more! Don’t miss out! Find out more about how you can get involved here.

Turo Park  – Fancy dress and trick or treating!

Kids in Turo Park organise a Halloween gathering every year on the evening of the 31st of October, full of costumes, sweets and trick or treating. It’s a great way to get your kids to socialize with other locals and expats. If your kids are into dressing up, go out and buy Halloween outfits and costumes which no doubt can be found all around Barcelona and at specific Barcelona fancy dress shops. Here are some fantastic costume ideas for this year! Just like in the US or the UK, children in Barcelona also go out and ‘trick or treat’ (it is called “Truco o Trato” in Spanish!). Find out how you can get involved this year here.

Port Aventura

If you have a bit more time on your hands, head one hour south to the amazing PortAventura World theme park. Each year, Port Aventura becomes filled with ghosts and ghouls and there are lots of Halloween activities from 22nd September to 18th November 2018. Enjoy all the park’s attractions with one of the special packs that you can buy for the whole family. Find out more here.

Happy Halloween!
